On utilise There are quand il y a plusieurs éléments au pluriel ou bien deux éléments au Singulier.

On emploie « there is » pour dire « il y a » quand l’attribut du sujet est au singulier. Quand il est au pluriel, en utilise « there are ».

ex: There is a book on the table. (« a book » est au singulier)

There are pencils on the table. (« pencils » est au pluriel)
