Differences between series and parallel combination of resistance

Explications:
In series: resistances are adding to each other
In parrallel:it's the opposite of resistances that are adding.
Ex:series:R1+R2=Rtot
parallel:1/Rtot=(1/R1) +(1/R2)
So Rtot=(R1R2) /(R1+R2)
