Nelson Mandela was a civil rights leader in South Africa. He was born on July 18, 1918 in Mvezo, South Africa. Nelson Mandela became a leader in the African National Congress (ANC).He spent 27 years in prison.He refused to be released and stated that he would die for his ideals. He wanted all people of all races to have equal rights in South Africa. He was released in 1900. Nelson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. He also had six children and twenty grandchildren. He died on December 5, 2013.
